Besides wildlife violations, his areas of practice include military justice defense, medical license defense, and administrative law. Attorney Hopkins gained extensive experience in the military justice system. He was commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army Judge Advocate General's Corps in 2008 and served on active duty from 2008 to 2012. During that time, he served as a trial counsel, senior prosecutor, and chief of military justice. He prosecuted cases ranging from sexual assault to robbery to wrongful drug use, and tried over 30 Soldiers in Courts-Martial, including 9 jury trials and 5 bench trials.

As Chief of Military Justice at Fort Sam Houston, he oversaw the prosecution of all criminal matters for units totaling 10,000 soldiers. During his deployment to Iraq in 2010, Attorney Hopkins was a felony prosecutor for all U.S. Forces in Iraq and second-chaired junior prosecutors. He was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for trying the most cases in Iraq for 2010.

In 2013, Attorney Hopkins joined the U.S. Army JAG Corps Reserves and was promoted to Major the next year. As trial defense counsel, he has successfully defended numerous soldiers in administrative proceedings resulting in retention in the Army Reserves or an Honorable Discharge. He returned to Austin in 2012, where he immediately began working at the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (Department) as a prosecutor. He successfully prosecuted the first, and to this day, only emergency hearing in department history and obtained a final order shutting down all the elevators in a Dallas hotel. In 2014, he joined Riggs, Aleshire & Ray, P.C. As a Colorado wildlife attorney, he works diligently to preserve the fishing and hunting privileges of the men and women our firm represents.
