Colorado Lawyers Discuss Presidential Pardons

Many individuals believe that once they have been convicted of a wildlife offense, there is no longer the need for an attorney because nothing further can be done with regard to the conviction. However, the wildlife attorneys at Welsh Law, LLC may be able to assist you with post-conviction remedies. One such remedy is a Governor's pardon.

Most states have a provision in their Constitution which provides for something similar to the following: "The governor shall have the power to grant reprieves, commutations and pardons after conviction for all offenses except treason." A Governor's pardon may be granted to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding and constructive behavior since the time of their convictions. If the Governor grants the applicant a pardon, the applicant will have his or her firearm privileges restored. Additionally, a pardon lifts legal disabilities, including employment disqualifications. If you have been convicted under a federal law, then the pardon you should seek is a presidential pardon. However, the procedures necessary in order to apply for a Governor's pardon or a Presidential pardon are somewhat complex, and the attorneys at FNBW can ensure that you properly complete all requisites in order to seek a pardon for any wildlife convictions you may currently have on your record.
